If you pop into the Village Club when the first class skittle alley is in use the rumble and crashing sound punctuated with bursts of cheering or laughter will tell you that one of the ladies or men’s skittle teams are enjoying another sociable evening.

Four teams altogether share use of the alley. There are two Blagdon ladies teams, playing in the South Avon League and in the Weston and District League, with their team names suitably reflecting the character of the village – one the Hillsiders and the other the Lakesiders. There are two mixed teams in the Wrington Vale League and one in the Legion League.

The alley flanks the bar of the Village Club so that players are part of the social activity and a colour CCTV monitor makes it easier for spectators to follow game progress and share in the excitement of close-fought matches.

Games are played mostly in the winter, with the venue at Blagdon Village Club alternating with away visits to Bristol, Nailsea and elsewhere depending on the team and its league.

Any member of the Village Club is eligible for team membership and welcome to join an existing team or make up a new team, depending on vacancies and team size rules.
